At least 20% of the population suffers from depression at some stage in their life. Earlier, depression was not diagnosed correctly due to the non - availability of trained psychiatrists. Also people were hesitant to approach doctors with their problem.
To overcome this problem, some of the drug manufacturers have introduced questionnaires which any physician can administer to the person suffering from depression. These questionnaires help the doctor correctly select the anti depression pills and the duration of the treatment.
Once the treatment is started, anti-depression pills take at least two or three weeks before any improvements are visible in the condition of the patient. The pills also need to be taken continuously for 3 to 6 months if the person is to be completely cured.
